"...with spring break being so short, it's nice to have something to look forward to after for a bit more fun"
- Veronica, fourth year
From live performances to carnival games to dance parties, this festival has everything! It's a great way to spend the first weekend of spring quarter, among other fun activities put on by the school.
This event started in 2022 as a fun and safe alternative to the infamous 'Deltopia' that happens at the beginning of each spring quarter– a huge dayger that has, to put it lightly, gotten out of hand. It used to be called 'Floatopia' and was a floaty party at the beach until 2009, when human waste started to pop up among the floaties (yeah, gross). There has also been a riot in 2014, several falls off the cliffs, and arrests that resulted in a visitor and beach ban during Deltopia weekend. Sooooo yeah, maybe it isn't the move.
But don't worry, several school organizations have put together other things for you to do including the festival! In 2022, AS brought Flo Milli and Pierre Bourne to perform at a students-only concert in the evening. Also, the Rec Cen opened up the rink for rollerskating. This is only a few examples, and the events grow bigger and get better every year. I totally think it's worth to check out if you can!
UCSB Dictionary:
dayger - combination of the words day and rager; a party during the day
AS - acronym for Associated Students
Rec Cen - short for Recreation Center
