Join an Excursion Club Trip

"It gets you out there...and it's a great way to make friends!"

- Emi Saroyan, third year

Sometimes the stress of school, jobs, and technology gets to be too much. Thankfully, UCSB's Excursion Club plans the activities and provides needed equipment so that you can escape it all!

Started and run by volunteer students as a way to share the love of nature, it's become a highlight of the UCSB experience. Some recent trips have included Yosemite and Death Valley, with activities like hiking, camping, and rock climbing. Don't worry if you aren't super outdoorsy. They're aware not everyone's a pro and will help with new experiences.

While the club requires a membership fee, it's totally worth it. I mean, they do all of the work for you and there's several trips a quarter. Sounds like a pretty good deal for such a small price to pay. The process of joining a trip is pretty simple. Basically, they announce a trip and you sign up. That's it! They text you if you got a spot and to confirm, then you're set for your adventure. No worries if you don't get a spot sometimes, it's first come first serve. You'll definitely get one at some point, so keep signing up!

Emi Saroyan, a 3rd year Anthropology major, has gone on several Excursion Club trips. They said their favorites were a hiking trip (pictured above) and pumpkin carving.
