"...where else will you ever be able to hear something like that again?"
- Jason Cathcart, fourth year
If you want to find new music, want to do something with friends, or you're just really into the music scene, going to an IV house concert is the way to go. You can find every genre in our little community, including indie, rap, and electronic.
In IV, you'll hear bands practicing pretty much any day of the week. I mean if you haven't heard music echoing from lot 22, are you even going to UCSB? The music culture has always been strong here, and rightfully so. From the time IV's housing grew, performers have made themselves a career among the party culture of UCSB. Artists even travel here to perform, if that says anything. The music that has been born from this movement has brought together students for years, and there's no end in sight.
What makes IV's music scene so amazing is how diverse it is, and the amount of personal funds and time artists put in for these house concerts. Not even considering how great they are, they definitely deserve support from the community. Some local performers to check out are Noise Complaint, Lot 22, Field Daze, and Cathcart (pictured above). To find out when they're playing, take a peak at SoundsofIV on Instagram. They post lots of local concerts. You can also just take a walk down DP, there'll definitely be someone playing in a backyard.
UCSB Dictionary:
IV - acronym for Isla Vista
DP - acronym for Del Playa
